National Down Syndrome Society celebrates the achievements of some impressive individuals with Down Syndrome in a powerful and eye-opening PSA marking its 40th anniversary.
The video, running across YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, kicks off doctor telling a parent that their child has Down syndrome and describing, in a somewhat paternalistic way, the limitations associated with the diagnosis. This is then contrasted with the real-life accomplishments of some of the people with Down syndrome featured; Collette Divitto owns a baking business, AnnaRose Rubright earned her college degree, Louis Dilauri has outlived the average life expectancy, John Tucker starred on an Emmy-winning TV show, Adrian Forsythe is a Lobbyist on Capitol Hill, Jon Stoklosa is a successful Powerlifter and Nicole Figueroa has been in a relationship with Jeffery Resnick for over 14 years.
The talent for the video, directed by Anthony Pellino via Curfew, was chosen from NDSS’s network. Saatchi NY created the campaign. It's aimed at furthering conversation following last year’s "Law Syndrome" campaign, which proposes legislation to reform the laws that hinder the Down syndrome community.
