Nerdwallet's 'Inflashion' turns money tips into outrageous couture

Deutsch LA teamed with designer Jack Irving to deliver financial advice via the virtual catwalk

Coinciding with both Fashion Week in New York and London, NerdWallet is sending its own couture pieces down the runway—as a way to dole out some financial advice.

In a campaign with Deutsch LA, the personal finance brand tapped British designer Jack Irving to create the “Inflashion” line, consisting of outrageous outfits that double as money-saving tips for consumers in the face of inflation.

The effort includes social videos promoting each over-the-top fashion item in “Zoolander” style—but coupled with some smart advice. 

One (above), for example, showcases a colossal puffer jacket, the “Pay It Down Coat,” encouraging people to pay down their credit card and other variable rate debts, since those will likely become more expensive as interest rates rise. 

The “Secure the Bag” piece is a floating, helium-filled handbag that suggests people ask for a raise. If they haven’t gotten one recently, because of inflation, they’ve technically been getting a pay cut this whole time.

 
 
 

Another item is the “In-Vest,” a puffy see-through vest full of cash swirling in the wind. It’s a reminder to consumers to invest any spare money that they have, spreading it across different asset classes.

The pieces were unveiled all this week via NerdWallet’s social channels

 

 

"Inflashion" was just one of a pair of brand-sponsored fashion lines to debut this week. UPS and The Martin Agency also teamed with LatinX fashion label Awake NY to debut the "Unidos Para Siempre" line, part of the brand's "Proudly Unstoppable" initiative aimed at supporting small POC-owned businesses.
