For a platform called "Stories," there isn't much storytelling happening on Instagram Stories, at least not in the traditional sense. But as usual, librarians are here to save us from a steady slide into aliteracy.

By following The New York Public Library on Instagram, literature fans unhappy with the text-averse nature of their friends' posts can now read classics like "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Metamorphosis" in InstaStories, complete with colorful animations denoting new chapters. Readers can actually "thumb" through the pages of the story, like they would a friend's story feed.

Mother New York created the "InstaNovels" and worked with artists Magoz and César Pelizer on the illustrations for Carroll and Kafka, respectively. Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" will also be available later this year, illustrated by Buck Design.
