Nike pays tribute to Dirk Nowitzki, the highest-scoring European in the NBA, as his career comes to a close by turning his story into a comic book and animation.
In a new project via Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam, the rise to glory of the German player, dubbed "Europe's Michael Jordan," becomes a poetic epic. The agency gave the book a modern rhyme scheme and huge illustrations over double spreads to make it feel like a contemporary epic. Copies were given to both the player himself, plus 41 limited edition versions to people that have played a role in his career (after his iconic number 41 jersey).
The book was then turned into an online film transforming the illustrations into moving animations, with one of the player's best friends, NBA legend Steve Nash, narrating it. Rashad Floyd at Heart & Hustle directed.
