Noma Bar's powerful Amnesty International illustration captures the horror of border separations

The separation of children from their families at the Mexican border--which dominated the news last week and eventually saw President Trump performing a u-turn on the policy--has sparked some powerful creative from artists and illustrators.

As well as Time Magazine's "Welcome to America" cover, Amnesty International Ireland, via Irish agency Boys and Girls, commissioned illustrator Noma Bar to create an image highlighting the border crisis. The image subverts the stars and stripes, with the red stripes forming the bars of a cage, and the face of crying chid, in blue, looking out with a star as their eye.

The agency also made a radio ad in which "The Star Spangled Banner" played stumblingly on a piano is interrupted by the sounds of crying children, taken from recordings made at the detention camps.
