Paul McCartney lends ‘When I’m Sixty-Four’ to this Save the Chimps ad
Apes can indeed live into their sixties, but they need your help

Will you still need them, will you still feed them?
Save the Chimps, a sanctuary for chimpanzees rescued from labs and show business, has released a fundraising ad featuring a special soundtrack—“When I’m Sixty-Four” by the Beatles—to explain how apes can live into their sixties and need your support more than ever.
Paul McCartney donated the 1967 track for the 30-second spot, unveiled this week.
“Most people don’t realize chimpanzees can live into their 60s, thus their lifelong care at sanctuaries is a costly commitment,” McCartney said in a statement. “I was happy to donate ‘When I’m Sixty-Four’ to Save the Chimps’ new campaign, as nearly half of the 200-plus rescued chimps they look after are seniors.”
The spot, which shows many of the sanctuary’s older apes enjoying retirement in the Florida sunshine, was made pro-bono by BCG BrightHouse in Atlanta. Dan Mathews of Save the Chimps—a former SVP at PETA who created the “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad series—has worked with McCartney before.
“Our team at BCG BrightHouse relishes working with worthwhile initiatives, so we were delighted when Dan asked us to help him realize this brilliant film,” said Mike Lear, executive creative director/head of creative at BCG BrightHouse. “We believe that it will generate donations and secure ongoing care for the chimpanzees.”
Chimpanzees suffer similar health problems as humans as they age, including arthritis and heart disease. The 150-acre Save the Chimps sanctuary provides them with specialized veterinary care.
