Pizza Hut has debuted its first-ever holiday campaign—to introduce its new "Christmas" pizza.
In a U.K. push via Iris, the festive pie's ingredients include "sage and onion stuffing, rotisserie chicken, bacon and a red wine gravy." If you think this sounds incongruous (or even gross), the tongue-in-cheek spot makes fun of this too, noting, "Nothing says Christmas like pizza," and "At least it's not more turkey." The spot ends by claiming that Christmas pizza is also the "best thing from 2020."
The ad features spokesperson Parker J. Patterson, who starts out by celebrating the U.K.'s Guy Fawkes night before throwing his sparklers aside and morphing into a Dickensian-style Christmas character. “Have you noticed that every year Christmas starts earlier?” he asks as he launches into a Christmas carol, playing every character in the chorus.
“For most of the nation, Christmas is no longer just a day, few days or even a week—every year the lead up gets longer and longer," noted Iris Chief Creative Officer Shaun Mcilrath. "We decided to lean into this quirk and get in there early with our tongue-in-cheek celebration of Pizza Hut’s new Christmas pizza.”
Directed by Fatal Farm via Agile Films, the spot will run online via YouTube and Twitch from today through New Year's.
