VW takes a leaf out of the DirecTV book of comic advertising in a new spot from South Africa: a scenario where one small action leads to an extreme chain of consequences.

The ad for the VW Polo revolves around an intern whose new Polo gives him the confidence to park in a reserved VIP spot at work--some kind of space tech company. Mistaken for the boss, he is pulled into some kind of crisis meeting full of panicking executives, and placed at the head of the boardoom table. Trying to leave, he inadvertently volunteers for a space mission and next we see him in a space station confronted by a big, red, flashing emergency button. As the real boss arrives at work, it ends with the sky flashing red and the tagline "Beware the Confidence."

The ad was created by Ogilvy Cape Town and directed by Greg Gray from Romance Films.
