It’s too soon to crown a winner for 2024’s best holiday ad, but Norwegian postal service Posten has a front-runner with “Reinfell,” a retelling of the story of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer through the lens of Netflix-style celebrity downfall documentaries.

Posten always makes provocative and often amusing holiday spots, but the Rudolf story may be its finest yet, perfectly parodying the look and vibe of these train wreck docs—with hilarious vignettes shot in a ’90s style.

It all ties together nicely in the end, too, as Posten positions itself as a reliable deliverer of holiday presents since 1647—whatever drama is happening with Rudolf and the gang.

“As the world has felt dark for so long, we believe the best gift Posten can give is a touch of holiday laughter,” said Pia Emilie Lystad and Thea Heber Bjørndal Iversen, the Pol creatives behind the campaign. “Our satirical documentary, ‘Reinfall,’ provides a playful look at the celebrity life of Santa’s head reindeer. The production was a lot of fun. We dove deep into every detail, even using cameras from different eras for the archival footage.”
