Martin de Thurah, one of advertising’s most celebrated directors, had a chance two years ago to create a short film for the National Museum of Denmark exploring the Viking history of Denmark—in particular, King Björn Ironside’s brutal attempt to conquer Rome in the ninth century.

The critically lauded 17-minute film ran alongside the museum’s exhibition on Denmark’s Viking Age for the past two years, but is now finally available to stream online. 

 

It has a haunting, poetic feel, which de Thurah has brought to some of his more traditional ad projects as well—such as Under Armour’s Michael Phelps spot.
