Mars Petcare catfood brand Sheba has become quite the expert in pairing felines with music in order to demonstrate cats' persuasive powers when they are hungry.
In a previous U.K. spot by AMV BBDO, a beautiful cat tapped its paws to the music of "Hungry Eyes" from the film "Dirty Dancing," and in the brand's latest ad, it takes things a whole step further by creating an actual French crooner who's actually an avatar for your cat.
The singer -- who, the brand says, is inspired by a combination of Engelbert Humperdinck and Serge Gainsbourg–is called Vincent Le Chat and sets out to seduce us with a 70s-style French love song in suitably kitsch attire. His song, ‘Nourris-Moi Bebe’ (Feed Me Now), includes lines such as “I’ll be your little kitten if you place me down some chicken” and “Surrender to your fate. It’s time to get my plate.” Eventually, the shot pans out to merge into the oval shape and blue color of a cat’s iris, as we see the cat’s owner hypnotically offering a bowl of food. The Perlorian Brothers at MJZ directed the film.
The 90-second spot will run in U.K. cinemas this week, with a 20-second version running on TV and online until May 19.
