EBay's Social Campaign Gives Customers a Discount on Rivals' Sold-Out Products

In France, eBay has been highlighting how rival retailers' "sold-out" products can usually be found on its site straight away, in a social campaign that gave people a discount on the goods they were unable to buy elsewhere.
The "Sold Out Promo Code" campaign asked people to paste the URL of the competitor website with the "sold out" tag on Twitter, or on its dedicated website. When they did, they were redirected to the product available on eBay, with a 15% discount.
The campaign, by Marcel, has generated 10 million media impressions according to the agency -- and allowed eBay to emphasize that it's the go-to place for hot new items without directly naming its competitors.
