Twix follows up its celebrated bears ad with a pair of philosophical chickens
DDB Chicago and director Ulf Johansson ask: Which came first, the cookie or the cookie dough?
Editor's Pick
Last year, Twix had a big hit with its “Camping” spot, which featured two twin humans staring longingly at a Twix bar—and two bears behind them, staring longingly at the twins.
Eight months after the debut of this witty spot, the Twix team and agency DDB Chicago are corralling a second duo of hysterical animals into the spotlight to promote its newest innovation: TWIX Cookie Dough.
In a creative departure from the decade-long “Left Twix” vs. “Right Twix” debate, the candy brand here plays on the “chicken or the egg” causality dilemma to pose its own question: What came first, the cookie or the cookie dough?
The spot was directed by Ulf Johansson. A 15-second version is running nationally, along with six-second social cutdowns.
In a category that’s been a creative showcase since the Skittles campaign launched in 2004 (Johansson made those first spots, too), Twix has been a strong player in recent years. Launched in 2012, the “Pick a Side” campaign urged Twix lovers to make the difficult but delicious choice between the “Left” and “Right” Twix, referencing the pair in each wrapper.
