Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are the latest musicians to jump on the "Universal Love" theme recently introduced the LGBTQ wedding album from MGM Resorts and McCann New York, which reimagined classic love tunes with the help of artists including Bob Dylan, Kesha, St. Vincent and others.
Actress/singer Deschanel, who with fellow M. Ward form the duo She & Him, have debuted their a pair of tunes celebrating homosexual love, their first new music in five years. The songs, and "She Gives Her Love To Me" and "He Gives His Love to Me," are essentially the same, but each addressing a different type of relationship: in one Deschanel sings of love for a woman, while in the other, she sings of a man's love for a man.
"We have always believed that love belongs to everyone - so love songs should too," the pair said in a statement. "What drew us to this project is that it opens up new ways of thinking about songwriting. It would be amazing if our songs help to inspire other artists to engage with lyrics in a more open, and inclusive way."
The songs are available on all streaming platforms from today. You can check on Deschanel's track here and Ward's here on Spotify.
