A little girl's autumn monologue kicks off new brand platform for retailer Very
Spot directed by Gary Freedman is first work from Grey London for the e-commerce brand
Editor's Pick
A little girl's cute monologue about the joys of autumn features in a new spot for U.K. online retailer Very, the first work from recently appointed agency Grey London.
The ad sees the girl talking to her toy Hulk figurine by herself in a playground, describing all the things she likes about the season, from hot chocolate, Bonfire Night and roast potatoes to Mum and Dad moving "from the white stuff to the red stuff." (We're assuming she means wine here.) Directed by Gary Freedman at Independent Films, the spot strikes an authentic, almost improvised, tone.
The ad is the first iteration of a new brand platform for Very that aims to focus on living life in the moment—particularly important, says the brand, in 2020. "‘Life is This Very Moment’ is here to remind us all that life happens now, and no moment is too small," said Raquel Chicourel, chief strategy officer at Grey London, in a statement. "This platform feels very much in tune with a lot of what we are all collectively experiencing today."
Carly O’Brien, Chief Marketing Officer at The Very Group, added, “Our strategy features moments from everyday life that are universal and culturally relevant, told through the lens of the consumer. Insightful, warm, optimistic and real throughout, the aim is to underline Very’s position at the heart of everyday life and to convey the humanity of our brand – helping, supporting, understanding – with the tone of a friend talking.”
Previous advertising for the brand, via former agency St Luke's, included some cute animated holiday spots and the brand is now planning a Christmas campaign in line with the new platform.
