13 creative campaigns to know about today
Banana Republic: The fashion brand unveiled its holiday campaign and collection starring models and actors Lauren Hutton and Mark Vanderloo, as well as San Francisco natives including winemaker Michelle Ouellet, ballet dancer WanTing Zhao and travel photographer and model Malick Bodian. The campaign was shot by Greg Harris and Gia Coppola.
CleanMyMac: The Mac optimization app’s new ads from agency HyperNormal is based on the insight that having a cluttered computer is like having an apartment full of your ex’s stuff you can’t bring yourself to throw out.
Don Julio: In time for Día de los Muertos (Nov. 1-2), Diageo’s Tequila Don Julio erected large “ofrenda” installations in eight cities including Los Angeles, Cape Town and Mumbai. To put the Mexican tradition on the map, the brand also tapped Mexico-based creators to develop content highlighting elements of the holiday, including an origin story by Ximena Del Valle and memorial by Monica Gonzalez Carter.
Etsy: The brand’s charming holiday spot from Orchard features a live-action version of “Where’s Waldo?”
Mint Mobile: The wireless carrier uses a mini Ryan Reynolds to pitch its new phone plan for kids in a spot from Maximum Effort.
Rao’s Homemade: The pasta sauce brand launched a campaign from BSSP showcasing the meticulous ingredient sourcing, rich Italian heritage and slow-simmered craftsmanship that make every jar special. One spot ends abruptly, as the sauce’s story is too stubbornly slow to fit in a :30.
Royal: Food brand Royal launched a campaign for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, that celebrates the blending of cultures and traditions. “The Many Flavors of You” showcases a South Asian-American couple blending Indian traditions with American culture, from backyard barbecues with neighbors to celebrating Diwali with friends and family.
Peloton: The fitness brand released a 30-second spot from Special London with T.J. and J.J. Watt as its targets men, who make up one-third of its members.
Samsung: A new three-minute documentary from BBH USA and director Eric Wareheim features interviews with former Apple Genius Bar employees who grew disillusioned with the company’s tech.
Sephora: Sephora’s holiday spots speak to the dilemma of what to gift someone you don’t know very well, who has everything or whom you’ve known forever. “Don’t overthink it. Give something beautiful,” say the spots, directed by Taika Waititi through TBWA\Chiat\Day LA.
Tile: The Life360 brand says its trackers will “family-proof your family” in a trio of darkly comic ads from Alto.
Vive Andalucía: An artful and dramatic film from Andalusia Tourism builds on the “Andalusian Crush” campaign by blending cinematic visuals and an original score by Hans Zimmer.
Volvo Trucks: The truck brand is back with another epic commercial, this time telling the story of a bromance between a trucker and a mysterious visitor. Oskar Bård directed the film, which was created by agency We Are More.
