7 creative campaigns to know about today
Apple
The iPhone marketer’s latest Chinese New Year film is just as impressive as past iterations, with TBWA\Media Arts Lab Shanghai and director Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) crafting a lovely story about dating in modern China—through the lens of a mixtape and other ’90s nostalgia.
California Olive Ranch
Agency Argonaut’s new campaign for the olive oil introduces a character called Tiny Rancher Cal, a 9-inch-tall spokesman who’s based on the brand’s farmer logo.
Channel 4
Following Meta’s decision to end the use of fact checkers, initially in the U.S., the U.K. broadcaster launched a campaign themed “We fact check the Zuck out of our news.” Ads will run in print and on a mobile truck—seen below in front of Meta’s London offices.
J. Crew
The fashion brand posted ads online featuring an unlikely new model, celebrated New Yorker writer Patrick Radden Keefe—a campaign that even earned a bemused writeup in The New York Times.
Ladder
Happy National Quitter’s Day from … Ladder? That’s right. In honor of the day when many people give up their New Year’s resolutions—the second Friday in January—the fitness app introduces an unlikely character: the Quitter’s Day Fairy (played by Stavros Halkias), aka the devil on your shoulder telling you to give up. In a humorous film, the forces for good on your other shoulder, Ladder coaches, are pretty persuasive, even for the Quitter’s Day Fairy.
Mercedes-Benz
A global campaign from agency Antoni and director François Rousselet, titled “In Her Shoes,” stars Antonio Banderas and his daughter Stella and highlights the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, equipped with personalized experiences. The film follows the actor driving Stella’s E‑Class for a day, borrowing her Mercedes me PIN, which unlocks access for him to experience some of her daily routines, giving him a peek into his daughter’s day-to-day life.
Myprotein
Terry Crews stars in a campaign for the sports nutrition brand, rejecting “new year, new you” January messaging in favor of a high-octane manifesto about unlocking your “main character energy.”
