How Coinbase is marketing its new Kevin Durant deal

NBA player Kevin Durant’s company Thirty Five Ventures, and his media company, Boardroom, will partner with Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange. As part of the deal, Durant’s companies and Coinbase will create content and education around crypto, NFT drops and philanthropic initiatives with the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation. Coinbase will plug its new star endorser with a digital and out-of-home ad welcoming Durant, created by artist Jacye Hall. Durant isn’t the first athlete to take an interest in cryptocurrency. Steph Curry and Tom Brady have equity stakes in FTX, another cryptocurrency exchange, with Brady starring in several commercials. Coinbase also became the official cryptocurrency platform partner of the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and USA Basketball in October. The partnership is the next step for Coinbase and Thirty Five Ventures, which initially invested in Coinbase in 2017.
