AI-generated slogans for Google and Facebook outperform human creations in new survey

When it comes to brand slogans, consumers still prefer human creations over AI—but just barely. Quality Logo Products, a company that makes promotional goods for businesses, asked AI to create slogans for 50 companies, including Lego, Verizon, Burger King and Levi’s. Then, it polled about 1,000 Americans on which slogans they liked better, the brands’ traditional slogans or the ones created by AI. Consumers preferred the AI slogans 46% of the time, the survey found. Some brands’ original slogans, such as those for Skittles and McDonald’s, are still the clear winners compared to their AI versions. Still, the survey found that AI may have other brands rethinking their mottos. More news: AI will replace over 30,000 ad jobs, report says AI wins in tech For Facebook, 83% of those surveyed preferred the AI slogan of “Your Digital Neighborhood” and just 17% chose the actual slogan of “It’s Quick and Easy.” The AI-generated Samsung slogan “Technology for Life” beat out Samsung’s own “Do What You Can’t” and 80% of respondents liked AI’s slogan for Adobe, “Designing Your Dreams” over the original “Changing the World Through Digital Experiences.” For Google, 87% of those surveyed preferred the AI slogan of “Explore Everything. Miss Nothing” over the brand’s unofficial motto, “Don’t be evil” (which the brand changed to “Do the right thing” in 2015 with the creation of Alphabet, Google’s parent company). Familiar food slogans prevail Some brands’ original slogans outperformed their AI challengers, with the top five being food-related brands. Skittles’ existing “Taste the Rainbow” slogan was preferred by 93% of those surveyed, and only 7% liked the AI-created “Taste the Technicolor.” For restaurants, Subway’s “Eat Fresh” slogan beat out AI’s clunky, “Bread Baked Daily. Memories Made Always.” McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” was preferred by 88% of respondents rather than AI’s “Savor the Moments, Taste the Magic.” KFC’s “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good” topped the AI-suggested “Where Every Bite is a Delight” and Burger King’s traditional “Have it Your Way” slogan topped “Taste Royalty.” Split decisions There were a few brands on which people were split between the original slogan and the new AI version. For Adidas, 52% preferred the AI-created “Stride with Pride,” compared with 48% who like the actual slogan of “Impossible is nothing.” Those in the survey were also split on Lego’s traditional “Play Well” (49%) versus AI’s “Your Imagination, Our Pieces” (51%).
