‘Fashion Coward’: Watch the ‘SNL’ commercial spoof that takes on Ann Taylor
“Decisions are hard,” an announcer says in a new “Saturday Night Live” commercial spoof that introduces a retail concept for women called Fashion Coward: “the only store for people who hate shopping and feel lost and scared, with clothes that suggest the general idea of a person.”
In a prerecorded segment that aired as part of Saturday’s episode of “SNL,” cast members Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon, along with guest host Emma Stone, portray meek, indecisive shoppers who appreciate the gentle reassurance of a store with departments labeled “Normal” and “Tragedy/Celebration,” and bland, loose-fitting wardrobe staples such as “Brown Sweater,” “Navy Shirt,” “Pants for the Legs” and “One Black Dress,” not to mention the “Big Gray Zip-Up Sweatshirt” (it “doubles as real-life invisibility cloak”).
Are you the type of person who wishes Fashion Coward would actually exist? You’re in luck! As the announcer reveals at the close of the spoof: “Fashion Coward: it’s just Ann Taylor.”
