Open-world action role-playing game Elden Ring has been one of the hottest games of the year, competing with the likes of Call of Duty and Fortnite.
Elden Ring sold more than 13 million copies in its first month
Elden Ring is known for being difficult but addictive, with gamers logging hundreds of hours in an attempt to beat the game’s final boss, which has become a badge of honor for all fans of the game. The FromSoftware Inc. game sold 13.4 million copies in just over a month and became the best-selling game in the U.S. in the first 12 months since its launch, according to the NPD Group. The company’s previous best seller, Dark Souls 3, sold 10 million copies across four years. FromSoftware teased the game during the industry's E3 conference in 2019, announcing plans to launch a game similar to its famous Dark Souls series including a collaboration with "Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin.
Martin and FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki had “many free and creative conversations ... which Mr. Martin later used as a base to write the overarching mythos for the game world itself,” Miyazaki said in a 2019 interview.
