Reddit’s maturing business means business

Reddit has been around for nearly two decades, but instead of plateauing, it has matured into a full-fledged social media stalwart. The brand’s efforts to grow its business culminated in March with an initial public offering (IPO), a moment long in the making—including two-and-a-half years after its initial filing. The IPO represents a new chapter in Reddit’s bid to be the place for conversation and information on the internet. Search and video ads, for example, are powering Reddit’s rebrand to advertisers as a recommendation engine. Subreddits, CEO Steve Huffman and COO Jen Wong told Ad Age last year, are a place where brands can find consumers who are already interested in purchasing their kinds of products. And new ad formats take a page out of TikTok’s book to make advertising feel less intrusive on the platform. Reddit recently unveiled an expansion of ads in comment sections, where brands can sport promotions amid user conversations.
