David Beckham meets his long-lost American twin—Dave Beckham, played by Matt Damon—and discovers they have more in common than a name in Stella Artois’ Super Bowl ad. A fantasy of profound moments and oddball humor, “David and Dave” comes from Artists Equity Advertising, the creative agency led by Ben Affleck, who directed the ad, and Damon, a longtime Stella Artois endorser who appeared in the brand’s Super Bowl spot in 2018. Beckham signed on to be Stella’s global ambassador last year. Stella Artois is a core component of Anheuser-Busch InBev’s high-end portfolio, fighting competitors in the import space. Beckham helped to usher in a new brand platform last year called “Worth More”; the Super Bowl ad will introduce an evolution of that concept called “For Moments Worth More.” The year-long campaign will focus on moments of connection over a Stella, while continuing to highlight quality credentials and taste, the brand said. The Super Bowl ad is part of a plan to double AB InBev’s spending behind Stella in the U.S. this year. The brand spent $24 million in U.S. measured media through the first three quarters of 2024, according to MediaRadar. Stella’s total 2023 media spend was $11 million. “David and Dave” begins in a British pub where Beckham is informed by actors playing his parents that he has a twin brother in America, whom they named “other David.” Beckham goes to investigate, meeting the decidedly more extroverted “Dave” Beckham at a backyard cookout. Dave offers his skeptical guest Buffalo wings and shows off a freakish skill—he can punt an American football out of sight. The denouement has Dave ask David if he’s “Matt Damon famous.” David replies: “Ben Affleck famous.” AB InBev said it would support “David and Dave” with TV, out-of-home, digital, social, retail and other channels throughout 2025. The campaign will feature multiple spots across the year, building on the story of “David and Dave” and showcasing their ongoing relationship together. “I can’t wait to keep telling the story of ‘David and Dave’ all year and shedding light on those moments in life worth more, where meaningful connection means more than anything,” Damon said in a statement. “The Beckham brothers are here to stay, and Stella Artois will be there with us at every moment.” Artists Equity is also handling Dunkin’s Super Bowl ad. A teaser released Sunday during the Grammys broadcast on CBS includes Ben Affleck and brother Casey Affleck, as well as “Succession” actor (and fellow Bostonian) Jeremy Strong. The teaser also includes a shout-out to Damon, with Casey Affleck scolding his brother, “You should have paid for Matt.”
