Born in Bali, 28-year-old Dhanank Pambayun lives in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where he settled after studying art and design at the local academy. He used to call what he terms his "experimental playground" Tragikpixel, but in 2004 it metastasized into Tragiklabs, which, as he notes, skews to "the dark and creepy."

His twisted influences range from psychedelic style to, of course, Tim Burton, and his favorite artists include Mark Ryden, Alex Pardee (EyeSuck Ink) and Chuck Anderson. Pambayun, who's active on the Indonesian art/design scene, made his international advertising debut last year via a bizarre Selleys Super Glue campaign for Leo Burnett/Singapore. Aimed at art students, the ads stick to one's eyeballs much like the product.
Andrew Grant, AD on the campaign, who has since moved on to BBH/Singapore, says of Pambayun, "Discovering an illustrator is like discovering a magical box?you have no idea what's going to come out. We found him through a local graphics mag in Singapore, and when we checked out his website we knew he was something pretty special. Here's a guy with one of the freshest styles, who has an amazing ability to create these intense worlds that take you in and keep you occupied for ages. He combines photography with illustration in a way that often makes it hard to figure out which is which. He was constantly surprising us with his own interpretations of the project."
