Lightly subverting tradition has been a theme of this year’s holidays ads, and here’s the latest amusing example—a spot for Temptations cat treats in which a cheesy TV caroling special gets interrupted by an off-key feline.

The brand has been running ads from adam&eveDDB lately under the “Cats Lose Their Cool” platform, which leans into felines’ propensity for not giving a shit—that is, until Temptations treats come along, which tend to break the resistance of even the toughest cat.

This new spot, directed by Jeff Low, sees a cat supremely unimpressed by the holidays, including a rendition of “Deck the Halls” by fictional ’70s-style singing duo the Armstrong Sisters. Soon, the cat obnoxiously jumps up to the piano and engages in some unwelcome accompaniment.

At the end, the sisters force the animal into holiday compliance with help from Temptations’ Creamy Purrrr-ée treats. It’s even wearing a little red Santa cape as it greedily laps the stuff up. This will, of course, only reinforce the piano behavior—cats always win in the end.

The spot will run on TV as a :15 through Christmas Eve.

“Every cat thinks they’re too cool to partake in holiday fun, but we know that cool exterior will crumble in the face of Temptations Creamy Purrer-ée,” said Richard Brim, chief creative officer of adam&eveDDB. “Our new campaign is a fitting addition to the ‘Cats Lose Their Cool’ platform—a funny, nostalgic, festive spot to prove just how irresistible Temptations treats are to our feline friends.”
