Deliveroo made a cookbook out of real delivery mishaps

Over the past couple of pandemic years, we've all become far more accustomed to meal delivery beyond the occasional takeout. But how many times have those meals been ruined by poor quality delivery, late arrival or damaged packaging?

Deliveroo is leaning into that insight with a new campaign from the Middle East in which it created an actual recipe book based on real delivery mishaps.  The idea is to highlight the claim that it will not only deliver your food, but deliver it on time and unspoiled, setting it apart from some less reliable competitors.

The "One Star Cookbook," created by Dubai-based agency And Us, is inspired by real-life online one-star reviews of delivery disasters. Its 36 recipes include such delights as "Car-door squeezed eggs benedict and English muffins," "Wild mushroom risotto infused with a whole cappuccino" and "Three hour late Neapolitan ice-cream surprise."

The book will be promoted on social and influencer channels. A copy can be obtained by registering interest on a dedicated website.

“The insight is clear -- when it comes to food delivery, the simple fact is that no matter how good the restaurant, chef, or ingredients — a dish is only as good as how it is delivered," said And Us Executive Creative Director Jamie Kennaway, in a statement. "If a dish is messed up in delivery, it’s ruined. It made us think that the delivery itself is a crucial part of the recipe.”
