This new, resusable shipping box is the latest invention to come out of eBay's Innovation Expo, which invites all the company's employees to submit ideas that will benefit buyers and sellers. The winning idea, based on the idea of "simple green shipping," emerged from submissions by 250 employees and 80 teams. The box is constructed to be rused at least five times over. Although it's not a completely original idea—companies like UPS also offer reusable packaging—eBay's box offers a personalized twist and leaves space for senders to write messages to the next recipient. The box's history can also be tracked through a virtual community online. The boxes will debut at eBay's On Location event in San Jose. 100,000 boxes will be distributed as pat of a pilot program. By the company's estimates, the use of the boxes could help protect 4,000 trees, conserve 2.4 million gallons of water and conserve enough energy to power 49 homes in a year.
