A pack of endangered burrowing owls are at the center of New Line's upcoming children's movie Hoot, and agency DZN, The Design Group is spreading the word by putting one of the cute critters at the center of your desktop. That's right, you can now adopt your very own owl by downloading a Desktop Pet, an animated icon that you can interact with as it wanders around your desktop. Much like the virtual pet craze of a decade ago (Tamagotchi, anyone?), owners can indulge their nurturing instincts by taking care of their personal owlfeeding it when it's hungry, burrowing a comfortable hole when it's sleepy and petting it with your mouse clicker when it's cranky.
