Rugby meets Japanese anime in this dazzling Rugby World Cup promo
ITV trailer comes ahead of tournament kick-off in Japan next month
Editor's Pick
With the Rugby World Cup set to kick off in Japan next month, U.K. broadcaster ITV pays homage to traditional Japanese anime in a fun promo for its coverage of the tournament.
In the film, rugby fans—from a little kid in bed to an office worker slumped at his desk and a girl waiting on a train platform—fall asleep and are plunged from live action into a dazzling, animated universe. They're transported to dreams that mash up rugby and Japan, and become anime characters in a land populated with super-sized players, backdrops of Mount Fuji, bullet trains and references to 16-bit gaming. They then wake up just in time for the games, which, due to the time difference, will start early in the morning U.K. time.
The film was created in-house by ITV Creative and directed by Keith McCarthy and Golden Wolf via Stink Films.
