A global ad campaign from Pepsi, launched Monday, brings together global football stars for a good old-fashioned game of “keepy-uppy” ahead of the UEFA Champions League final on June 1 at Wembley Stadium in London.

“Where There’s a Ball There’s a Way,” shot in London and created by Copa90, features a cinematic short film that introduces Manchester City’s Jack Grealish as Pepsi’s newest ambassador. Grealish is joined outside Wembley by other football (soccer) legends and global Pepsi ambassadors Vini Jr., Son Heung-min and Leah Williamson as local Londoners challenge them to a game of street soccer despite the “No Ball Games Allowed” signs hanging around them.

The soccer greats accept a challenge and action ensues, depicted by trick shots, slow motion and more. A traditional London café is taken over by Pepsi, and football icons Karen Carney and Vinnie Jones make cameo appearances.

The campaign teases Pepsi’s partnership with the UEFA Champions League and aims to show how football can be played anywhere when there’s a desire to play.

“Whether you’re playing on the biggest stages in the world or on city streets, there’s an opportunity to unlock the enjoyment that it brings,” said Eric Melis, VP of global brand marketing, carbonated soft drinks, at PepsiCo. “This film is the first chapter in our ‘Where There’s a Ball There’s a Way’ campaign as we look to engage with the footballing community and highlight any barriers to access to the sport, remembering always that all you need is a football, the right attitude and you’ve got yourself a game.”

“We’ve got big plans for the rest of the year working both within football itself and within the wider culture around the game,” Melis continued.

The campaign, which kicks off in London on TV, will roll out globally in the coming weeks.

“Where There’s a Ball There’s a Way” is a multi-year platform, which the brand says will “unlock unexpected ways to play, both on and off the pitch in the years to come,” according to press materials.

As part of the platform, future iterations of the campaign will see Pepsi challenge conventions restricting access to playing football through fashion collaborations, entertainment and social content.

The first leg of the Champions League semifinals begins today (April 30) with Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid, followed by Borussia Dortmund vs. Paris St. Germain tomorrow.
