Jelly Roll stars in Zevia’s amusing nod to Cindy Crawford’s old Pepsi ad

Zevia has enlisted Jelly Roll in its latest punking of Big Soda, with the Grammy-nominated artist starring in an amusing spot that parodies Cindy Crawford’s classic 1992 Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi. In the ad, Jelly Roll pulls up to a remote gas station in a red pickup truck with Linda Lindell’s “What a Man” playing. Two boys take notice as he takes a slow, unapologetic swig of Zevia Creamy Root Beer. One of the boys remarks on Zevia’s marketing strategy as they continue ogling him. Created by Maximum Effort and produced by Really Original, the commercial is meant to position the zero-sugar, naturally sweetened soda as a healthier alternative to sugary drinks. It premiered Sunday during the premiere episode of “American Idol.” Also read: Zevia mocks Coke’s AI holiday ads to pitch its all-natural soda “Our strategy is to make the Zevia brand as anti-artificial as our products, and stand out by entertaining people while cutting through culture and the clutter of the category,” said Kirsten Suarez, chief marketing officer of Zevia. “Jelly Roll was the perfect partner for this idea because not only is he a charming superstar with broad appeal, he is also so genuinely real, and open about his own personal health journey.” “Zevia is the real deal. Nothing artificial and still tastes amazing. Unlikely? Yes. But true? Absolutely. As real as it gets,” said Jelly Roll in a statement. The spot follows Zevia’s ridiculing of Coca-Cola in December, when it aired a spot with exaggerated AI-generated imagery—a response to Coke’s AI-driven holiday ads.
