KFC Canada’s fried chicken battles an AI recipe in blind taste test

AI can do lots of things, but it can’t make the best fried chicken. That’s the takeaway from a KFC Canada campaign from agency Courage, in which the chain challenged AI to create a fried chicken recipe by analyzing highly rated recipes across the internet. Then it set up a blind taste test to compare the results with KFC’s own Original Recipe. The taste test is captured in the entertaining video above. “We know that credibility isn’t claimed, it’s earned,” said Jordan Sequeira, senior marketing manager, brand and communications, at KFC Canada. “This creative enabled us to prioritize meaningful, granular engagement with our fans, making them a core part of our brand and story—from the recipes already online to testing the best that AI had to offer, they were an integral part of the idea.” “What I love about his idea is that it isn’t just using AI for the sake of making something with AI,” said Dhaval Bhatt, co-chief creative officer at Courage. “It’s using it to make a bigger point that not only will appeal to a lot of people, but also serves the business objectives of driving KFC’s taste and quality scores in a super relevant and engaging way.” The campaign will be extended through a public event at a Toronto KFC on March 19, where the public will get to try the AI chicken.
