Thanks to the coronavirus, hooking up, dating, and their potential finale—a wedding!—were big no-nos last year. That meant that everyone’s favorite form of family-friendly entertainment, wedding singers, were left without work. Now, however, Match is doing its part to get these talented folks back into business in a new music-themed campaign created with Ryan Reynolds’ agency Maximum Effort.
The client and agency teamed up with a group of top musical talents— songwriters Pasek and Paul (“Dear Evan Hansen,” “La La Land,” ” The Greatest Showman”) , Taura Stinson, Shane McAnally and producer Harvey Mason Jr., aka president and CEO of the Grammys, to create an anthem for the upcoming hot vax summer.
“Get Back to Love” pushes singles to get out of their jammies, out the door and back into the dating pool. It also features a dozen wedding crooners( Anna, LaVance Colley, Char Fletcher, Mo Hebert, Scotty Isaacs, Quentin Moore, Mr. Chris Norton, Francisco Ruiz, Meredith Snyder, Dave Vives, Kelly Wolfgramm, and “ZZ”) who are all ready to help get the party started for those who are finally able to tie the knot.
The tune they perform makes that very clear:
The chapels are empty
No vows have been swappedThere’s no chocolate fountains
and the music has stoppedIt’s time that you started
gettin’ over your exCause you’re double vaxxed
But you’re still single AFNow we don’t get paid
If no love songs are playedWe’re totally screwed
‘Til you start gettin’ laidSo can you get back to love
So we can get back to lifeWe really need you to meet that husband or wife
(or any kinda partner)It’s been drierthan a desert
So what would it hurt? Now baby tell me can you get back to love
So we can get back to work?
The music video, directed by Matt Eastin, ends with a call to action: “Download Match.” (And then please hire any of the singers that just performed on screen.)
It’s a bit of a departure from Match’s latest big push from Maximum Effort, a fantastical tale that saw Satan finding his soulmate, the year 2020, on the dating platform
“This is a piece about getting back to love,” Reynolds said in a statement. “Maximum Effort, my company, we adore and love bringing people together. Obviously Satan and 2020 brought people together in a slightly different way. Now we’re trying to bring people together with an all-time great song.”
“We’re currently in a culture-shifting moment for daters,” added Match CMO Ayesha Gilarde. “Singles are coming out of the pandemic feeling all kinds of different feelings. But one thing’s for sure, they’re ready to make up for lost time. We loved working with Ryan and Maximum Effort again to encourage everyone to get back to love.”
