McDonald's 'walk-thru' billboard will serve you a McFlurry

Drive-thru takeout places have been more popular than ever during the pandemic—but what if you’re in the middle of a city and on foot? McDonald’s has the answer. The brand has erected a “walk-thru” billboard on London’s South Bank where pedestrians will be able to get a free McFlurry from a hatch on a McDonald’s billboard. The McFlurrys will be served from today through the weekend between 11AM and 6PM daily. The experience was created via Leo Burnett London, in partnership with media agencies OMD and Talon. It’s part of the brand and agency’s current campaign platform “Fancy a McDonald’s?” which debuted last month with an ad featuring no dialog but 60 seconds of laughter as people enjoyed their McDonald’s food. “We all need moments of light-hearted release—opportunities to let go and forget the pressures and expectations of life,” said Steven Howells, director of marketing & media at McDonald’s U.K. in a statement. “As McFlurry celebrates 21 years on our menu, it seems only right to surprise and delight our customers by giving some away in a truly unique way.” “McDonald’s has always been a generous brand and our ‘Fancy a McDonald’s?’ brand platform allows that thinking to come to life in less traditional, more unexpected ways,” added Mark Elwood, executive creative director at Leo Burnett.
