Get Ready for the New John Lewis Christmas Blockbuster
Will It Cheer U.K. After Trump and Brexit?
Nov 09, 2016
As John Lewis prepares to release its new Christmas campaign tomorrow morning, U.K. advertising-watchers are now firmly convinced that the Twitter handle @Bouncing2016 has been airing teasers for the spot.
The first teaser, featuring a dog watching a small child bounce round the garden on a space hopper, broke on Monday, and has been followed by two more similar clips, one featuring the child jumping on a sofa, and the latest, seen here, today with her bouncing on a bed. Observers have pointed out that the "#BounceBounce" hashtag used in the teaser is in the same font that John Lewis has used in the past.
The full ad will be directed by Dougal Wilson and created by Adam&Eve/DDB. John Lewis will be hoping it can replicate the success of past efforts including Monty's Christmas (2014) and The Long Wait (2011), also directed by Wilson.
Meanwhile some of the British public (still stunned by Brexit and now Trump's win in America) are hoping the spot will provide a moment of cheer in a dire November 2016. "The John Lewis ad better be f***ing spectacular this year" tweeted writer Philip Westerman in a much-retweeted comment on Wednesday morning.
