Samsung's tribute to NBA MVP Russell Westbrook is a more reflective ad than the animated homage by Jordan Brand; it reminds us how the player overcame adversity to reach the top spot.
As we see the player setting off for a game, the text on screen rolls through various adjectives to describe his journey, from "undersized," "overlooked" and "4th pick" Russell to "loved," "dominant" and "triple double" Russell. "It took all these Russells to become MVP Russell," the ad concludes, with Samsung's tagline "Do what you can't."
The ad is by Wieden & Kennedy Portland and was directed by Will Mayer of B-Reel Films.
