A new campaign from Unilever skin care brand Pond’s puts a hilarious product-focused spin on a seemingly adorable love story.
The ad, created by David Madrid, is called “Love at First Sight,” and centers on a man and a woman who work in adjacent office buildings and start a flirtation through their windows. It’s all very promising and cute as they mirror each other’s actions, stare adoringly through the glass and get in trouble with the boss.
You might think it’s going to end up like Samsung’s recent Onions spot, with the star-crossed lovers from rival restaurants getting together. However, things start to go wrong when the girl starts to draw cute messages on the window. The man thinks of a way to respond, but, due to his greasy skin, everything goes horribly wrong.
“In competitive categories like the Men’s segment, a key way to break through to consumers is to take a disruptive approach. And in doing this we have become a fun, irreverent, loved brand – which is growing faster than the others. That’s the true power of our creative approach” said Pavan Bedi, Global Brand Director, Pond’s, in a statement.
“We wanted to highlight the benefits of Pond’s new product without stating the obvious and instead shared a lighthearted scenario that implies how this product solves a popular skin concern,” added David Madrid Executive Creative Directors André Toledo and Saulo Rocha.
The campaign, directed by Zipi at Blur Productions, will run for six months across broadcast TV and digital, beginning in Indonesia then globally.
