These Pacific Northwest Ford dealer ads perfectly spoof survival shows like ‘Alone’

If you’re addicted to watching people freak out alone in the wild, you’ll get a kick out of GTB’s new campaign for Ford dealers in the Pacific Northwest. A trio of spots start out just like the more panicky moments on shows like “Alone,” where contestants are completely isolated and seemingly in great peril. But in the spots, there’s a quick salve—and no, it’s not a fish or a mouse caught in a trap just as starvation is setting in. The ads were shot on location in Gresham, Oregon, and the Columbia River Gorge by director Logan Schneider, who used local actors from the Portland area. The misdirects at the beginning are pretty convincing, and survival-show tropes are so well established—and so unique to the Pacific Northwest—that they are a perfect fit here. “We wanted to have fun with the off-road capabilities of Fords and showcase the Pacific Northwest scenery,” said Dan Goldgeier, senior copywriter at GTB. “We recreated the look and feel of the shows but threw in some cool twists to demonstrate the vehicle’s benefits.” “Our customers in the Pacific Northwest are adventurous types,” said Michael Doherty, chairman of the Northwest Ford Dealers Advertising Association. “We wanted to show off our region and our vehicles with a little flair. It’s quite different than any advertising we’ve done as a regional Ford dealer group.” The spots highlight the Ford F-150 truck, Bronco Sport SUV and Explorer SUV. The spots will run on television and digital media throughout Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Montana.
