Burger King denied terminating its social media contract with Dentsu, despite a post on the fast food chain’s Instagram account stating otherwise.
“We can confirm Dentsu is still the social agency of record for Burger King U.S. and has not been terminated,” a Burger King spokeswoman wrote in a statement to Ad Age. “The social post was removed immediately upon our team learning of it and we are working to understand how this happened.”
The Instagram post, which quickly made the rounds on social media, read: “As of today, we have terminated our social media creatives contract with our agency Dentsu. This decision was not made lightly, as the agency failed to deliver any results and missed deadlines for several crucial campaigns and deliverables. We wish the agency the best in the future.”
A spokesman for Dentsu referred calls for comment to the client.
Dentsu’s 360i won Burger King’s U.S. social business in 2021 (360i was consolidated under the Dentsu Creative banner in 2022). Dentsu’s Merkle also works on Burger King’s CRM business.
Burger King’s lead creative is BarkleyOKRP. Its media agency is PHD.
