Independent Milwaukee agency Hanson Dodge has named Mike Roe its chief creative officer. Roe joins from crosstown agency Hoffman York, where he had been executive creative director for two years.
Indie agency Hanson Dodge hires a chief creative officer
Roe takes over leadership of Hanson Dodge’s creative department from Chris Buhrman, who is retiring this month after 10 years at the agency and nearly 40 years in the business. Buhrman’s title was executive creative director; Roe’s CCO role is a new one at the agency.
Roe worked closely with Stacie Boney, Hanson Dodge’s president, when they were both at Energy BBDO in Chicago more than a decade ago. At the Omnicom Group agency, Boney was client service director. Roe was group creative director and later ECD, leading award-winning work for Wrigley’s 5 and Orbit gums, as well as SC Johnson’s Raid and Ziploc brands.
“Those campaigns impressively demonstrated how to use creativity to drive client’s business success,” said Boney, who added that she is excited to reunite with Roe.

Hanson Dodge said it expects Roe to help continue the agency’s momentum from 2024, when it saw double-digit revenue growth and added new clients including LIXIL North America (the biggest account win in agency history), Ruffwear performance gear for dogs, JOJO’s Chocolate and the B2B brands Baxter Planning and Grey/Orange.
Hanson Dodge was named Small Agency of the Year, Midwest, Silver, at Ad Age’s 2022 Small Agency Awards.
“My goal is quite simple,” said Roe. “I want to help grow Hanson Dodge’s creative reputation as the best agency in Milwaukee and beyond, with work that builds clients’ brands by defying expectations, has never been done before and inspires envy among our peers.”
