Publicis New York hires new chief creative officer

Publicis New York has hired Grey New York’s Joe Mongognia as chief creative officer, effective Friday. Mongognia will lead all creative across the office, including Pfizer, which moved most of its creative brand duties from Interpublic Group of Cos. to Publicis Groupe last week. Mongognia will also collaborate with other Publicis Groupe agencies including Le Truc, Fallon, Digitas and Razorfish to integrate creative and production with data, media and technology. He will report to Publicis New York CEO and Publicis Groupe Global Chief Strategy Officer Carla Serrano. The role has been vacant since 2022, when Erica Roberts left for BBH. “More brands are turning to Publicis for creative ideas fueled by collaboration and co-creation, and bringing in Joe bolsters the depth of our offering and creative leadership bench in support of the Power of One,” Serrano told Ad Age, referring to the company’s philosophy that promotes collaboration among its agencies. “We needed a chief creative officer who can work across our business and portfolio to elevate creativity in how we deliver for our clients.” Check out the latest Ad Age events and award programs Mongognia spent 11 years at Grey New York, where he most recently served as executive creative director working with Pfizer, the NFL, Gillette, Pringles, Mass Mutual, National Parks and Procter & Gamble. He helped develop Pringles’ 2024 Super Bowl spot starring Chris Pratt, Procter & Gamble’s Cannes Lions-winning campaign “Widen the Screen” in 2021 and “Losers” for Pfizer’s “Science Will Win” campaign in 2023. Prior to Grey, Mongognia served in creative roles at Ogilvy, McCann and what was then J. Walter Thompson. “One of the most challenging aspects of being a creative is doing breakthrough work on big, iconic brands,” Mongognia told Ad Age. “The Power of One model and Publicis New York’s ambition to lead the industry creatively invites endless opportunities to partner across the Groupe” to make creative that works harder for the agency’s clients. Publicis Groupe said it will continue staffing up its creative accounts, aiming to have more than 200 creatives under Mongognia by the end of the year.
