TikTok global business solutions president moves to advisory role

TikTok’s Blake Chandlee is slated to leave his role as president of global business solutions next month for an advisory position, the company announced. On Monday, TikTok shared a corporate note from Chandlee in which he said he would be scaling back his role to an advisory position. Chandlee’s note said that his move was part of a broader shakeup within TikTok that would unite the global business solutions and the global monetization product technology teams. The monetization technology team is the one primarily responsible for products such as TikTok Shop, which brands use to sell directly on the TikTok platform. “As our offerings become more technical and our client product solutions become more sophisticated,” Chandlee said in the memo, it was more important for those two teams to work “hand in hand.” Chandlee said his new position would be an advisory one. The move follows high-profile departures from the company in recent months. TikTok was not immediately available to provide further details. He has been at TikTok since 2019, helping take the company from a viral startup app with virtually no ads to the force it is today. Chandlee has represented TikTok at major events such as the Cannes International Festival of Creativity and IAB NewFronts. Chandlee is leaving his role at a sensitive moment for TikTok as the company is negotiating with the U.S. government to keep operating in the States. Last year, U.S. lawmakers passed a bill forcing TikTok’s China-based owner ByteDance to divest from the company. This year, TikTok has been negotiating with the new Trump administration to keep running. Chandlee has been a steady voice in support of TikTok and its role in U.S. culture and commerce, and has worked closely with advertisers that had reservations about the app. “I’ve always wanted to lead with honesty and openness and want you to know that I am very comfortable with this,” Chandlee wrote in the memo. “I am proud of what we have built and grateful to have been a part of this amazing story that will continue through you! On Monday, TikTok also said that Khartoon Weiss would take on the title of global business solutions team leader in North America, which expands her current role as global business solutions head of global agency and accounts. Also, Chandlee’s memo said that the leaders of the newly united global business solutions and the monetization products teams will report to Will Liu, a TikTok executive based in Singapore.
