Matthew McConaughey connects all the dots in Uber Eats’ Super Bowl spot to support his fictional theory that football was actually created to make viewers hungry.
The celebrity-filled ad, called “Century of Cravings,” goes back in time to show key moments in history that put food-related references into football, starting with calling it a “pigskin” to make people crave bacon (with help from Kevin Bacon). McConaughey, “Hot Ones” host Sean Evans and a friend, Bill, dive into a plate of buffalo wings—perhaps why Buffalo got its own team? McConaughey, dressed as Bears coach Mike Ditka, tells William Perry that yes, he does have to go by “refrigerator.” The ad also shows McConaughey as Peyton Manning, suggesting the quarterback was trying to sell Omaha steaks with his signature pre-snap word.
A boardroom scene that includes Charli XCX and Martha Stewart includes McConaughey pointing out that this year’s game has a halftime show sponsored by an apple—the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show—in Caesars Superdome, a dome named after a salad.
