If there was one thing to say about 2022, it was that the industry didn’t stand still. On the contrary, it seemed everything was moving. There were enough CMOs switching jobs and agency executives leaving for rivals (or for nowhere at all) to cause whiplash. Accounts flew into review at a furious pace—and some boomeranged back to their previous shops. There were leaps toward fixing the long-broken system of media measurement. Cryptocurrencies soared. Cryptocurrencies crashed. Paid brand activations on Twitter plunged as safety concerns rose. Inflation spiked and the economy seesawed. Industry luminaries departed this world, including legends George Lois and Dan Wieden. Even the Queen left the throne after 70 years. And to think—we still have 12 days to go before the year is over.
