Burger King is giving free Whoppers to Bronx residents who live near the 'Joker steps'
The brand's latest anti-clown stunt features an iconic movie location
Editor's Pick
Tourists have apparently been flocking to a staircase in the Bronx after it appeared in "The Joker"—and now Burger King is muscling in on the phenomenon with its latest attempt to troll clowns.
As reported by the New York Times, the stairs in the Highbridge district have become a mecca for people taking Instagram shots and creating memes—and not all residents are pleased.
In a campaign by David Miami, Burger King is therefore offering anyone who lives in the vicinity of the stairs to get a free Whopper delivered to their home using code KINGSTAIRS on the Uber Eats app. The campaign starts today (Jan. 7) to coincide with the release of "The Joker" on DVD, and runs through Jan. 12. It's promoted via a social video, seen here, which features the "King" dancing on the steps.
Burger King says the reason for all this is because it "knows how annoying clowns can be, and wants to put a happy face on all Bronx residents"—though in reality, it's just another clever promotion for the brand's delivery options.
Meanwhile, perhaps BK has realized that if you can't beat the clowns, join them.
