Lenny Kravitz and James Franco Suck at Guitar Hero in Latest Ad for Revamped Game

Lenny Kravitz and James Franco seek to outdo each other's rock star moves in the latest trailer for Activision's Guitar Hero Live -- and they both really suck ... at first.
In the spot, Kravitz and Franco each have a go at impressing the responsive crowd in the game -- but their performances fall flat ("Who brings a You Suck sign to a concert?" asks an incredulous Franco. "James Franco fans, apparently," zings back Kravitz). It's only when they team up to rock the crowd (while touching butts like the real pros) that things go better, although Franco gets a little carried away.
Caviar's Jonathan Krisel, co-creator of Portlandia and a SNL veteran, directed the stars, who according to creative agency 72andSunny are both huge fans of the game. "As filming went on, the two got the hang of the game and even added some of their own style to their set," said the agency in a statement.
Guitar Hero Live launches October 20, after returning from a five-year absence. New features include a live action audience and a redesigned guitar controller that makes it both "easier to learn for beginners like Franco and yet harder to master for veterans like Kravitz." The new ad happened to debut right before competitor music game, Rock Band 4 from Harmonix, released today.
