The retailer is the first UK advertiser to give a nod to the tournament.

So far, U.K. advertisers have steered surprisingly clear of the World Cup in their holiday ads -- despite the fact that the spots will be airing during the coverage. However, Aldi has seemingly gone all in for the soccer tournament, in this year's edition of its ever-popular "Kevin the Carrot" campaign

The teaser for McCann U.K.'s latest ad, which broke this weekend on social media, shows Kevin and his family waiting in an airport for a Christmas flight to Paris (on "Peasyjet") when he gets distracted  by some food-with-faces versions of famed soccer players. As well as a lemon called Ron-Aldi, there's Roy Bean, Beth Swede and even Marrow-dona, not to mention Mm-bap and Macaroon-y. Kevin the Carrot gets drawn into the game, but then disastrously misses a goal, as well as his flight, as his wife and kids head off without him.

Once again we're loving the humor of this campaign, as well as the topicality and of course the fun animation. But we're intrigued to see whether Kevin will be heading off to Qatar instead of Paris, or if this year's ad will go in a totally different direction...
