Healthcare leaders debut #StayHome campaign to help curb coronavirus spread

This weekend, a group of healthcare leaders, including a former U.S. Surgeon General, chief data scientist and White House physician debuted the #StayHome campaign encouraging Americans to help to curb the spread of the coronavirus by limiting their social interactions. The group made the announcement in an op-ed in USA Today on Sunday. The wrote, “Stay at home as much as possible. It may be in your community now or it may be soon. Until you hear otherwise from health care officials, even if you have no symptoms. That means avoiding playdates, sleepovers, bars, restaurants, parties, or houses of worship. Avoid all crowds.” Along with that assertion they offered up lists of recommendations to individuals (“Wash your hands. Early, often, thoroughly” and “Above all, do not panic”) as well as to state and local leaders (“Prioritize the most vulnerable” and “Temporarily close bars and restaurants when there is evidence of rising community transmission”). The campaign arrived just as cities around the country have been taking significant steps to limit the spread. Both New York City and Los Angeles, for example, announced schools would be closed for an extended period, while restaurants, gyms and other similar businesses would also halt much, if not all of their operations temporarily.
