Evian visits the ‘Mountain of Youth’ in epic fantasy commercial set in the Alps

BETC pays tribute to the source of the brand’s mineral water—and includes a sly reference to its classic baby campaigns

Evian water, maker of the viral baby commercials of yore, is out with a new global campaign that’s also focused on youth—but with a snowy new spin.

Crafted by agency BETC (which has recaptured the account from Wieden+Kennedy) and director Henry Scholfield, a new minute-plus global commercial is set on the “Mountain of Youth,” a fantasy location in the Alps where a group of fairylike people (dubbed the “Evianers”) live a life of mostly frolicking all day, it seems. But when a hiker visits the mountain, he can’t see them—as they’ve become adept at camouflaging themselves within the environment.

Set to the song “Joy” by Pharrell Williams, the spot pays homage to Evian’s heritage in the French Alps, where its mineral water is sourced through 15 years of natural filtration through Alpine glacial rocks. 

“I loved how this concept is actually an excellent life philosophy, ‘Live Young!’, cleverly disguised as a brand campaign,” said Scholfield. “I wanted this irreverence and joie de vivre to come to life in each of our depictions of their world, from what they do to what they wear, whilst capturing the spirit of the Mountain of Youth, and its inhabitants who are a lotta bit mischievous and a little bit wild.”

Accompanying print and OOH executions are also set in snowscapes. Some of the ads feature Evian’s global brand ambassadors such tennis stars Emma Raducanu, Frances Tiafoe and Stan Wawrinka and French golf champion Celine Boutier.
