If you're suffering from the January blues, and you've already used up those scented candles you got for Christmas, KFC just might have an answer.
The brand's U.K. arm and agency Mother London introduced a "zen" website, KFChill.co.uk, for Mindfulness Day back in September, to let listeners chill out to the sound of simmering gravy or frying chicken. Now, it's helpfully added a KFC gravy-scented candle. KFC gravy "superfans" (apparently, there are some), can get their hands on one of a limited edition candles on a first come, first served basis via www.kfc.co.uk/gravycandle.
It's the latest attempt by the brand to tap into the brand's global tradition of inducing ASMR in its followers (as seen in Wieden & Kennedy's video with George Hamilton's Colonel munching on chicken in 2016). But perhaps the mindfulness aspect adds an extra layer for stressed millennials.
The press release contains a quote from the Colonel's "trusted parfumier": “What an honor it was to create a candle with such a highly-beloved scent. Initially the different ingredients within the gravy were split into their constituent parts and fragrances matched to each. Then the scent was built component by component in the similar ratios as KFC’s iconic gravy. The artisanal approach to creating the candles was crucial to ensure the familiar and evocative aroma of gravy was perfectly captured.”
Alternatively, we think, you could just go and stand in a chicken shop, and inhale.
